I’ve been meaning to do my own review of the Thermomix TM31 for a while, I just haven’t gotten around to it. Anyway, I’ve had the TM31 for over 2 years now and I use it fairly regularly, although I don’t use it for everyday cooking (which is what the majority use it for). You will have seen in quite a few of my recipes, I resort to the Thermomix, particularly for the more technical[…]

Tasting Menu – Thanks to everyone!
First of all I’d just like to say thanks to everyone for coming! It seems like everyone enjoyed eating it as much as I enjoyed making it – that makes it all worthwhile. Special thanks to Martin and Hilda for hosting, helping with the cooking, setting out a beautiful table and washing up behind me as I proceeded to turn their kitchen upside down! You made something special, extra special. Thanks also to my wife[…]
Tropical Cocktail Competition
I’ve finally succumbed to the lure of running a competition. In my defence, this competition has a purpose – cocktail ideas for my old man in Malaysia. The challenge? To create a cocktail involving tropical fruits. Apparently the drinks cabinet in Malaysia is not moving very fast and needs to see some use. So what’s in it for you? A full cocktail shaker set, the same one I use at home, worth £60. The set[…]
Exploring Cocktails
Ever since I started drinking alcohol, I’ve loved drinking cocktails. I love all the different tastes you can get from cocktails despite the high alcohol content. I’ve never taken to beer, largely because it’s just too bitter for my taste. Whisky, bourbon, wine, cider and other spirits are no problem for me, but not beer. Sadly with the exception of cider and wine they are all short drinks, so when drinking with friends I tend to go through 2[…]
My dinner party in review
So now that the guests have finished eating, I’ve finished cooking and all the pans have been washed (several times over), all that’s left to do is write-up all the recipes. Before I do that, I’m going to go through the menu and how it all went. Firstly, I decided to add an additional soup course. Three courses didn’t sound like enough work and I had initially planned to make a Langoustine & Coconut Bisque[…]
Dinner with friends
This weekend is going to be the first time since moving south from Aberdeen that I’ve had friends around for dinner – a bit of a poor effort considering I’ve been down here for over two years! I’ve been given a slight challenge as the meal must be both lactose and gluten free and it has made me rethink a few of the dishes… I was going to have a wild rocket (Arugula) and goats[…]
A word on knives
I bought a 3 piece Hammer Stahl knife set at the Bristol foodies festival last weekend after Martin Blunos recommended them (and mentioning a 20% discount). The RRP of the set was £275 – a lot of money for 3 knives! Thankfully they were doing a bit of a deal, selling the set for £190 with a free 5.5″ Santoku knife. After giving Martin’s recommendation and quoted discount I managed to get the set for[…]
Wrapping up in Malaysia
I’ve got a couple hours to kill in the airport waiting for my flight home so I thought I might as well do a quick summary of my journey though Malaysia. Although I am having to make do writing this on my phone. In my two weeks spent here in Malaysia, I can safely say I’ve gone through the complete spectrum of ‘food quality’. I’ve eaten things so good I could eat them for lunch,[…]
